PM to chair Cabinet meeting

Prime minister George Papandreou will chair a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday afternoon, which will discuss the selection of the new leadership of the country's highest courts, a draft law on the creation of a Green Fund, the planned lifting of cabotage restrictions, and matters concerning services to the citizens.

ND leader Samaras on migration issues

Parliament passes regulation enabling FinMin to sign European Support Mechanism accords without prior approval by the House

The parliament plenary late Monday passed a bill on payments in the domestic market, which contains a provision allowing the finance minister of the country to sign accords in the context of the European Support Mechanism for the Greek economy without requiring prior approval of the individual agreements by parliament, with the exception of borrowing from other countries.

Greek bond market closing report

The yield spread between the 10-year Greek and German benchmark bonds was 772 basis points on Friday, from 775 bps on Thursday, with turnover in the Greek electronic secondary bond market falling to 85 million euros. The Greek bond yielded 10.32 pct and the German Bund 2.60 pct.

Prime minister George Papandreou assured that his PASOK government will respect the outcome of the deliberation with the social partners and desires consensus, speaking after a Cabinet session to a meeting that was attended by the leaders of the General Confederation of Workers of Greece (GSEE) and the Hellenic Confederation of Professionals, Craftsmen and Merchants (GSEBEE), finance minister George Papaconstantinou, employment minister Andreas Loverdos and several PASOK MPs responsible for labor and social security issues.
