Bank employee union calls off strike after reaching agreement with management

A 24-hour strike by bank staff scheduled for Wednesday was cancelled after their union (OTOE) came to an agreement with bank management for a new collective work agreement, they said on Monday.

The OTOE union said one of the demands met were for shorter hours, with banks open to the public Monday-Friday 08:00-14:00.

They also said their jobs would be protected for the three years the agreement will be in effect while their salaries will see gradual rises, following “7 years of wage losses and stagnation due to the memorandum (loan agreement) crisis.”

The agreement “will restore a new kind of operation for banks, to the benefit of the real economy and their own (banks’) growth,” OTOE said.
