Greek embassy in London: Greek-UK trade volume up 20 pct in Q1

Greek-UK trade volume grew 20 pct in the first quarter of 2018 totaling 541.51 million pounds, from 451.26 million in the same period last year, the Greek embassy in London said in a report.

The report, based on preliminary figures released by the UK national statistics service, said Greece ranked 40th among customers and 48th among suppliers in the UK.

The bilateral trade balance left Greece with a deficit of 67.71 million pounds, up around 89 pct compared with the same period in 2017 (38.80 million) reflecting a significant increase in UK exports to Greece.

The value of Greek exports to the UK (including oil products) totaled 236.90 million pounds in the January-March period, up 14.04 pct from the previous year, while excluding oil products the value of exports amounted to 211.92 million pounds, up 2.02 pct. The value of imports from the UK (including oil products) totaled 304.61 million pounds, up 25.0 pct from 2017, while excluding oil products the value of imports rose 6.5 pct.

The top 10 Greek exports to the UK are: pharmaceuticals, electrical machinery and equipment, dairy products, copper, vegetable/fruit/nuts, aluminium, clothing, plastic products, boilers and food products.

The top 10 Greek imports from the UK are: pharmaceuticals, electrical machinery and equipment, cars, alcohol, fossil fuel, chemical industry products, clothing, optical machines, photography/cinematography, surgical tools.
